WHS Act 2020 places responsibility in the hands of the PCBU (Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking), previously referred to as the “Responsible Person”.

The WHS Act 2020 stipulates that you have a duty of care under the common law to provide a safe working environment.

As a part of this responsibility all portable electrical appliances should be tested in accordance with the AS/NZS 3760 Standard In-Service Safety Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment and RCD’s.  Portable Firefighting Equipment is covered under the Australian Standard; AS 1851: Maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.

Australian Standards serve as a minimum benchmark, they commonly use terms such as Shall or Must indicating Mandatory requirements or should which give prescription of best practice i.e. should use a guard rail for when working at height. Where should is given, it requires justification to the action persons or organizations decide on.

The main Australian standards we must comply with for Electrical Appliances, and Fire Equipment are:

AS/NZS 3760:2022 Electrical Safety Standard

AS 1851 Maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.

This prescribes the service requirements for fire extinguishers and blankets, the 4 main periods between inspections for fire extinguishers are 6 months. Yearly. 5 yearly (offsite hydrostatic pressure tests) and When defects are suspected such as after use. Each period will have different requirements.

We will also provide you a detailed report on each asset tested,
to ensure you have all the records you need to remain compliant with your Insurers, and WorkSafe WA legislation.

We are also able to provide you with detailed asset registers with images for easy identification.
